MWA Nova´s Laser
Shrinkage Detector L.S.D Wins “STAR” Award From Editors of
TV Technologyter
LAS VEGAS
The Laser Shrinkage Detector L.S.D. manufactured by MWA Nova
GmbH is the recipient of the 2011 STAR (Superior Technology
Award Recipient) Award presented by the editorial staff of
TV Technology magazine at the 2011 NAB Show. A lot of
facilities are working with our magnetic sound reproducer
MB51 to archive their older material.
The MB51 transports the film with a sprocket less Capstan
drive but need a sprocket wheel to synchronize itself to
external sources. This sprocket disables sometimes to run
shrunken material. For this matter MWA found a solution: the
L.S.D. (Laser Shrinkage Detector) as a modification kit for
the MB51 magnetic film reproducer. The MB51 will be able to
reproduce any kind of film with shrinkage rates up to 4%.
The speed is corrected during playback and stays perfectly
in sync with external sources like word clock, bi phase or
video sync. Unlike solutions with exchangeable sprocket
wheels, L.S.D. also works when the shrinkage rate varied
during playback. Since no sprockets exist in the hole film
path, there is no danger of damaging valuable archive
material.xxxxIn combination with the specialized vinegar
sound head the user gets a solution for not only shrunk
films but also films in curly and waved condition (the
vinegar syndrome).
This solution is the only way to rescue the content of
magnetic sound material which is varied shrunken and has the
vinegar syndrome. The L.S.D. was developed together with
operators in the field and is already successful in use.
Now celebrating its 11th anniversary, TV Technology’s STAR
Award is designed to honor and showcase the outstanding
technological innovations available to the broadcast
industry. A panel of judges consisting of TV Technology
editors and columnists reviewed a variety of products,
examined the technical applications and their overall
contribution to the industry, and then submitted their award
nominees.
“The NAB Show serves as the launching pad for thousands of
new products and services for audio and video professionals,”
said Tom Butts, TV Technology Editor. “Our panel of judges
walks the show floor in search of the most innovative
technologies. The products and services that we select for
the STAR Award make the cut—they demonstrate their ability
to help advance the acquisition and distribution of
entertainment and information across the media spectrum.”
TV Technology (www.tvtechnology.com) is the industry’s
leading magazine for technology news and reviews and is
celebrating its 28th year covering the television industry.
The magazine is published by NewBay Media LLC, the world’s
largest publisher of audio and video publications.
